Family Foundations

  • We worked with a newly formed family foundation to translate their three mission areas into a total portfolio strategy. This engagement included investment education for the founder and next generation, drafting a strategic Investment Policy Statement, and sourcing and diligence of investments across all asset classes.
    • Integrated environmental sustainability across all asset classes and were able to build a 100% aligned investment portfolio within appropriate risk and return objectives;
    • Sourced and diligenced a number of early stage, high impact opportunities in collaboration with ImpactAssets for the Foundation’s Program Related Investment (PRI) interests in social entrepreneurship and initiatives in the family’s home state;
    • Focused the foundation’s grant budget on the less investable area supporting  at risk youth.   
  • We helped a Silicon Valley family foundation build a mission aligned endowment portfolio and carve out a high impact PRI portfolio.  
    • Created an Investment Policy Statement with special consideration for the foundation’s relatively short spend down time horizon.  
    • Crafted a carve out decision matrix, providing structure to prioritize potential deals and assess expected financial and impact returns.  

Individuals

  • We launched an investment club for individuals to invest in early stage companies addressing challenges in the US food system.  
    • Curated quarterly meetings with educational content;
    • Sourced and diligenced early stage, catalytic companies in food waste reduction, sustainable agriculture, equitable access to healthy food, and sustainable plant based foods.  
  • We researched the landscape for investing in women-founded and women-led companies on behalf of a family office.  Provided guidance on fund structuring, legal entities, potential collaborators and co-investors.

Wealth Advisors

  • We worked with a wealth advisor whose client was seeking more investment opportunities to benefit her local community.  
    • Researched traditional investors including local private foundations, Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFI’s), banks and investment funds to identify key partners in the geography;
    • Identified start up incubators, a local family office investing in locally-based businesses, and a number of neighborhood entrepreneurs to provide the client with a full spectrum of possibilities across sectors and investment stages;
    •  Provided the client and her wealth advisor with deeper due diligence on the three deals she wanted to pursue.
